Resources for Families of Victims
There are many resources available to the families of victims of the September
11th attacks. The following lists some of the services that families may be
eligible to receive including financial assistance, legal advice and
educational scholarships.

Many victims' families face serious financial burdens as a result of the events
of September 11, 2001. The following organizations and funds provide financial
assistance to those in need.

Asian-American Federation of New York: This organization
provides coordination and information about services and funds provided by
various agencies to Asian-Americans affected by the terrorist attacks. For more

Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund: Cantor Fitzgerald is a
financial services firm that lost 658 employees in the World Trade Center
attacks. The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund was established to provide direct
assistance to those who lost loved ones in the tragedy, as well as ongoing
assistance for childcare, tuition, housing, and living expenses. Howard Lutnick
and the Partners of Cantor Fitzgerald underwrite the expenses of the fund,
which is staffed by volunteers so that each and every dollar raised goes

Carr Futures World Trade Center Memorial Fund: Carr Futures is
a brokerage firm that lost a number of employees on September 11, 2001. The
Carr Futures World Trade Center Memorial Fund will focus on the short-term
emergency relief and assistance needs of families and partners of Carr
employees who were the victims of the World Trade Center tragedy. The Fund may
also provide longer-term assistance to the furthest extent possible for
educational expenses, long-term health care, debt relief, and other appropriate

JPMorgan Chase: This financial institution invites people and
businesses affected by the terrorist attacks to apply for flexible mortgage

Nasdaq Issuers Disaster Relief Fund, Inc.: Nasdaq, the world's
largest electronic stock market, created the Nasdaq Disaster Relief Fund to
provide both immediate and long-term solutions for the families and victims of
this disaster-from food and shelter to college education funding and more.

New York State Crime Victims Board: This board provides
financial assistance to cover expenses related to medical care, counseling,
burial, and property damage; lost earnings to dependents of missing persons or
those killed in the attacks; and to people who are unable to work due to

New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund: This
fund was established to provide resources to help the families of New York City
firefighters and police officers killed in the terrorist attacks with immediate
expenses. The fund also distributes an annual check to each of the surviving

United Jewish Communities Emergency Relief Fund: This fund was
established to provide financial assistance to victims of the terrorist attacks

terrorist attacks can seek financial assistance and plans for transitional

Victims' families face countless legal questions in the wake of the terrorist
attacks, ranging from the right procedures to follow to collect life insurance
policy benefits, to issues of citizenship and guardianship. The following
organizations offer legal assistance to the families of victims.

Legal Referral Service of New York City and County Bar Associations:
This organization provides free legal assistance to victims of the terrorist

Several scholarship funds have been established for the children of those who
perished in the terrorist attacks last September. Consult the following list
for funds that might apply to you or your family.

Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR) 11 September
Scholarship Fund: The AIMR is an association for investment
practitioners and educators. Among the lives lost in the September 11, 2001
terrorist attacks were at least 56 AIMR members and CFA candidates. AIMR has
established the 11 September Memorial Fund to provide scholarships of up to
$25,000 annually to the casualties of the attacks and their spouses, domestic
partners, and dependents who state a desire to pursue undergraduate degrees in

Sandler O'Neil Assistance Foundation: Friends of Sandler
O'Neil & Partners, L.P., an investment banking firm, have established the
Sandler O'Neil Assistance Foundation to provide financial and other assistance
to the families of the victims of the September 11, 2001, tragedy. The
grant-making process will be based on financial need, and preference will be
give to the dependents of the Sandler O' Neil employees who lost their lives at
the World Trade Center. While the Foundation will consider all requests for
financial assistance, it has chosen post-secondary education for the dependents
of the Sandler O'Neil victims as its main priority. For more information, call

Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund: The Windows of Hope Family
Relief Fund was formed to provide aid, future scholarships, and funds to the
families of the victims of the World Trade Center tragedy who worked in the
food, beverage, and hospitality professions. Windows of Hope will pay health
insurance (COBRA) for each family for five years to ensure that all families
receive continuous health coverage. Future contributions will be made after
individual needs are assessed by the Community Service Society of New York

Citigroup Relief Fund: Citigroup has established a $20 million
scholarship fund for children of people who died or were permanently disabled
as a result of the attacks or during rescue activities, and who are in need of

City University of New York World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship:
CUNY has set up a scholarship fund for children and spouses of victims who were
severely disabled or who died in the attacks. There are no U.S. citizenship or

September 11 Scholarship Alliance: Several organizations have
joined together to form this scholarship fund, operated by the Citizens'

Alliance was formed by leading scholarship providers and associated
organizations to simplify the scholarship application process for postsecondary
education for the families of those who died or were permanently disabled in

an overview of available scholarships that may be used to attend an accredited
two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the

Scholarship America

Scholarship America is the nation's largest private sector scholarship and
educational support organization. Through the Families of Freedom Fund, it
provides postsecondary education assistance through the year 2030 to dependents
of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the September 11
attacks. Families of Freedom 2 is the second scholarship fund created by
Scholarship America. It provides scholarships for postsecondary education for
families in Lower Manhattan south of Houston Street who suffered loss of income
as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Fund, this fund provides awards for study in higher or further education in the
United Kingdom to children or dependents of victims of the terrorist attacks on
the United States on September 11, 2001. Scholarships are offered for full-time
study leading to a degree (undergraduate or graduate), or the equivalent, at a
recognized institution in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, or
Northern Ireland). There are no restrictions on age, nationality, or on
residence in countries. Applicants must have lost a parent or guardian as a
result of the terrorist attacks, be able to demonstrate need, hardship, or

9/11 High School Scholarship Fund in Memory of Patrick Sean Murphy

The Fund shall provide need-based high school scholarship awards to children
adversely affected by the events of September 11, 2001. The Fund will award
recipients substantial financial assistance, up to and including tuition, to
attend a high school in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut. Additionally, the

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has established the September 11th Program,
dedicating $1 million to provide educational assistance to dependents and
spouses of people killed or permanently disabled in the attacks on the Pentagon
and the World Trade Center, the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in
Pennsylvania, and the September and October 2001 anthrax attacks. Grants are
available by semester for undergraduate study at any two-year, four-year,
technical, or trade school in the United States. Eligible applicants must
demonstrate unmet financial need. The September 11th Grant may cover any or all
of the following educational expenses: tuition, required fees, books, room and

- Exploration Summer Programs

Summer Programs is a recipient of a generous foundation grant that allows the
organization to host young people who lost a parent or guardian in the
September 11 attacks. Students choose from a host of engaging academic courses
structured as hands-on, problem-solving experiences. They participate in a
variety of activities, athletics, and trips throughout the Northeast.
Attendance is fully funded with assistance available for travel costs. Dates
for the program in Summer 2005 are as follows. First Session: June 26-July 16,
2005. Second Session: July 17-August 6, 2005. Catalogues and DVDs are available
upon request for each of the programs: the Senior Program at Yale University
for students entering grades 10-12, the Intermediate Program at Wellesley
College for students entering grades 8-9, and the Junior Program at St. Mark’s

- Comfort Zone Camp

Comfort Zone Camp is still sponsoring its weekend camps in the NJ/NY area. They
will be offering two camps there in 2005. The camp weekends are April 29-May 1,
2005 and October 28-30, 2005. The camps are for children ages 7-17. They are
opening these camps this year to all children who have lost a parent, sibling,
or primary caretaker. The campers will still be primarily 9/11 children, but
they will be integrating all children into these camps. Transportation is
available if needed, and offsite accommodations for an accompanying
parent/guardian may be available upon request. Please note, Comfort Zone's
Virginia-based camps continue to be open to any grieving child from around the

- Camp Haze

Kennybrook in Monticello, NY, will again host the fourth Camp Haze from August
20-26, 2005, a one-week, all-expense paid summer experience for children who
lost a loved one on September 11, 2001. The goal of Camp Haze is to provide
these children with refuge from worry and grief, a network of peers, and a
staff that understands their unique emotional needs. They expect to have

- Better Days Camp

The Better Days Foundation was set up out of a great need for long-term support
for those who lost a loved one in the attacks on September 11 and is run by
people who lost family members, friends, and loved ones. Its mission is to
provide victims’ families with support for many years to come though a variety
of fun, healing programs. The Foundation sponsors a free one-week camp. This
year, the camp will again be held at the Sports and Arts Center at Island Lake
in Starrucca, PA, on August 17-24, 2005, and is for campers ages 6-17. For more

- America's Camp

This week-long, sleep-away camp in Lenox, Massachusetts, is offered at no cost
to eligible families. The campers have diverse backgrounds and interests, but
share a common experience -- they have all lost a parent in the 9/11 attacks or
in the line of duty as a New York City firefighter or law enforcement officer.
A mature, enthusiastic staff is thoroughly trained to ensure a positive,
supportive environment. Campers participate in a wide range of sports, crafts,
water activities both at the pool and lake, and special events. The 2005
session will begin on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 and finish on Wednesday,
August 24, 2005. For information about the camp and enrollment, families can

- Outward Bound

Outward Bound is the national leader in experiential education in the United
States. Students learn personal leadership, character, compassion, and a sense
of social responsibility through the challenge and adventure of wilderness
learning. Outward Bound provides free course scholarships to young people
affected by 9/11. Outward Bound also provides 3-5 day courses in the New York
City and Boston areas for youth ages 12-25. These programs are excellent for
12-13 year olds and for those students who would like to remain relatively
close to home. Programs run year-round. Outward Bound representatives speak
extensively with scholarship recipients to find the right course for each
