![]() The Plan for Lower Manhattan > General Project Plan
General Project PlanLMDC is charged with assisting New York City in recovering from the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and ensuring the emergence of Lower Manhattan as a strong and vibrant community. The centerpiece of these efforts is the creation of a permanent Memorial remembering and honoring the thousands of innocent men, women and children lost in the terrorist attacks. To these ends, LMDC is proposing to undertake a redevelopment program, in cooperation with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. This program includes the planning, selection, coordination and construction of a Memorial, and the planning and possible construction of Memorial-related improvements and museum to complement the development of commercial office space, retail space, hotel and conference facilities, open space, and certain infrastructure improvements. On November 9, 2006 LMDC’s Board of Directors adopted proposed amendments to the General Project Plan that reflect and incorporate Frank Sciame’s recommendations with respect to the Memorial and museum, as well as other proposed amendments to the plan. |
